Overview
Planning ITV News stories and deployments for the next day and further ahead, making editorial and logistical judgements and assigning resources in line with the ITV News agenda. Producing in the field across a variety of pre-planned and on the day stories.

Responsibilities

  • Working on the planning desk looking at the following day and further ahead to drive and shape the news agenda for ITV News bulletins
  • Identify and pursue stories for future coverage when on planning

  • Writing a clear and concise handover to the incoming news editor, ensuring that all relevant details of stories and assignments are included
  • Presenting a draft list of stories for consideration to the daily or weekly look ahead meetings, with a premium on distinctive coverage ideas and storylines, rather than simply a news diary

  • Set realistic but challenging objectives for reporters covering stories
  • Ensure arrangements are in place to deliver material safely and swiftly to GIR for transmission
  • Support ITN’s responsibilities to the rest of ITV, external clients and other broadcasting/media organisations. In particular, taking account of the needs of those services when planning deployments of journalists and technical teams
