6 June 2024 marks the 80th anniversary of Allied Forces mounting the largest amphibious invasion the world has ever witnessed in 1944. Around 4,000 ships and landing craft set down over 130,000 troops on five Normandy beaches, in action that would bring about the liberation of north-west Europe from Nazi occupation.

France will commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Allied landings in Normandy from June 5 to 8. Approximately 80 heads of state and government will attend the celebration, with a notable presence being a representative of the Russian president, who was not initially listed among the invited countries. Key attendees include U.S. President Joe Biden, British King Charles, and several prominent Western and Arab figures.

The celebrations will also feature the establishment of camps by soldiers and veterans from various nationalities, particularly French, mimicking the camps that existed during World War II in the squares, towns, and roads of the Normandy region. Additionally, American and other units will perform a simulated landing on the beaches, with participation from military aircraft from several countries.
