The International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank, along with Morocco, announced on Monday that their annual meetings will proceed in October, despite a recent earthquake near Marrakech that claimed the lives of more than 2900 people.

In a joint statement, the President of the World Bank, Ajay Banga, the Managing Director of the IMF, Kristalina Georgieva, and the Moroccan Minister of Economy, Nadia Fettah Alaoui, stated that the meetings will take place from the 9th to the 15th of October in Marrakech, which is only 72 kilometers away from the site of the earthquake that had a magnitude of 6.8 on September 8th. Some adjustments will be made to adapt to the circumstances.
