Police and Peruvian military forces in Lima are preparing for the imminent arrival of thousands of people from southern Peru to participate in the anti-government protests known as the "third takeover of Lima" scheduled for July 19.

Alberto Otarola, head of the cabinet, made the announcement from the presidential palace, as police officers started barricading it ahead of a general protest being called for this Wednesday, July 19th.

Various groups and organizations are planning to reignite the antigovernment nationwide protests which demanded the resignation of President Dina Boluarte and restitution of Pedro Castillo.
