Eurovision News Events

World Youth Day (WYD) takes place from 1 to 6 August in Lisbon, Portugal.
More than 1.2 million pilgrims are expected to take part in the week-long festivities. The event, organized for young people, was initiated by Pope John Paul II in 1984 and is celebrated internationally every two to three years.

Pope Francis' itinerary in Portugal includes a meeting with President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, a brief visit to Fatima and a closing mass. The main welcome ceremony with Pope Francis takes place on 3 August at Parque Eduardo VII.

Eurovision News Events and EBU-member RTP are co-host broadcasters of the event, and are producing and distributing the coverage of the Pope's visit to Portugal.

Coverage will be available as follows:
- Live video coverage via satellite: Various moments of this event will be distributed live worldwide via satellite, free of charge and rights.

- Live video coverage via SRT: If you cannot downlink, an SRT stream is available for takers interested in receiving the live signal in full broadcast quality, free of charge and rights. Email us to request the stream information.

- Downloadable video and audio coverage: Content from all host-covered events will be available on our VOD platform Eurovision NewsDirect in downloadable video (.MXF and .MP4) or audio files. Registration to the platform is free, quick and required.

- Live stand-up positions: We are offering a live position from venue A (Parque Eduardo VIII) with a partial view of the stage and pilgrims from 1 to 4 August, and from venue B (Parque Tejo) with a direct view of the stage from 5 to 6 August. Additional ad-hoc stand-up positions are available on request.

- Curated coverage only for EBU members: Host, RTP and member coverage and edits will be available on our News Exchange and on our Audio platform in downloadable files with full shortlist and transcript.
