Next Tuesday, the celebrations of the Prophet’s birthday will start in the capital, Khartoum.
The events begin with the zaffa, which is one of the traditions rooted in Sudan, and its processions start after the afternoon prayer from the public squares, accompanied by folk music and drums, all the way to the places designated to celebrate this religious occasion.
The zaffa is interspersed with religious chants and Sufi chants to the rhythms of drums and tambourines, including the "Nuba", a popular percussion instrument, while Sufi bands sing prophetic praises, whose rhythms are swayed by the devotees.
Tents are erected in the Caliph Square in Omdurman throughout the first days, during which the celebration reaches its climax and continues with singing and praise.
The celebration is linked to (the sweetness of the birth), which takes beautiful forms and changes names every year, such as Queen Jhansi or German Chancellor Merkel in the past years, and it is likely that one of the most famous brides will take the name of the late Queen Elizabeth
