EU energy ministers will hold urgent talks on Friday 9th September in Brussels as energy prices spiral across Europe following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The energy ministers of the 27-nation bloc have convened this urgent meeting trying to shed dependence on supplies of Russian oil and gas. One potential solution to help ease the crisis would be to cap the price for gas used in the production of electricity. Russia's dominant role as an energy supplier to the European Union has led to concerns that Moscow could limit supplies during winter as payback for EU sanctions.
