President Macron will face off against his right-wing rival Marine LePen in the final round of the French election. He leads the field after the first round, winning almost 28% of the votes, nearly 5 points ahead of Le Pen.
The pair now face off on Wednesday 20 April in a televised debate, a tradition dating back to 1974, where quick comebacks from candidates has been cited as a factor in swaying voters. The two candidates vying for France's presidency in the upcoming second-round election runoff are to face each other in a televised debate in Paris on April 20.
Incumbent and pro-EU centrist Emmanuel Macron leads far-right candidate Marine Le Pen in polls ahead of Sunday's vote, though the race is tighter than when they faced off in 2017.
