FLIGHT DELAYS DUE TO SHUTDOWN STAFFING SHORTAGE

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration is reporting delays in air travel because of a "slight increase in sick leave" at three East Coast air traffic control facilities.

The staffing problems were reported at air traffic centers in Jacksonville, Florida and a Washington, D.C. center that controls high-altitude air traffic over seven states.

LaGuardia Airport in New York, Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey and Philadelphia International Airport were experiencing delays in takeoffs.
