STEPHEN HAWKING MEMORIAL

A memorial for celebrated physicist Professor Stephen Hawking will be held at Westminster Abbey in London on Friday, 15 June.

Hawking’s ashes will be buried in the nave of the Abbey church alongside influential scientists such as Charles Darwin and Isaac Newton.

The Hawking family will be present and in a nod to the public, their foundation will select 1,000 applicants at random to attend.

The address will be given by the Astronomer Royal Martin Rees and Professor Hawking's collaborator and Nobel prizewinner Kip Thorne will give a tribute.

Hawking, who passed away on 14 March, was one of the world’s most accomplished physicists, despite suffering the effects of a neurodegenerative disease.
