21.03.2018Peru: President Kuczynski resigns *** ARCHIVE

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS I AP 360

LIMA, PERU | 21 MARCH 2018 - ONWARDS

Pressure is building on Peru’s President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski to resign after several allies were caught in secretly-shot videos allegedly trying to gain the support of a lawmaker so he would block the leader’s impeachment.

The revelation of the four videos late Tuesday deepened a political crisis playing out just three weeks before the Summit of the Americas to take place in Lima.
Lawmakers are scheduled to vote Thursday on whether to oust Kuczynski over corruption allegations. He narrowly survived a similar vote in December.

The Associated Press is now operational with live positions overlooking the Lima skyline.
