TVN News & Services Agency

The Polish Parliament has adopted two laws reforming the Polish judiciary system - on the Supreme Court and on the National Judiciary Council. Both laws were adopted by the ruling majority of Law and Justice.
Previous bills prepared by Law and Justice party and proceeded by the parliament ealier this year caused massive protests all over Poland.

Two presidential projects changing the structure and the staff of the Supreme Court and the National Council of the Judiciary, both supposed to be unconstitutional and violating the “balance of powers” principle, were suposed to replace two Law and Justice bills that the president vetoed a few months ago. Opposition says the presidential projects were substantially changed by the Law and Justice majority so that now they seem even more severe than the party’s own projects from the past. The voting law reform, on the other hand, is supposed to increase changes of the ruling party to win upcoming elections and create opportunities to major electoral frauds. All three laws will then be sent to the Senate.
