On the anniversary of the famous shipwreck off Lampedusa, a hearing takes place in Palermo Court to determine if a man, suspected of being one of the world's most wanted people smugglers, really is who the authorities claim he is. Medhanie Yehdego Mered was captured in 2013 and extradited from Sudan to Italy.
He is believed to be responsible for the the 2013 shipwreck where about 800 people died. But there is evidence that this could be a case of mistaken identity, as the the person arrested may actually Medhanie Tesfamariam Berhe, and the real Mered would still be at large.
