Russian flight contril officers face new charges in the 2010 Smolensk crash, says deputy general prosecutor Marek Pasionek. As he explained at the press conference organised a week before the 8th anniversary of the accident, two offices and a third person that was present in the control tower at the moment of the accident have been charged with “voluntarily causing a plane crash”.

On 10 April 2010 Polish Airforce Tuplolev crashed a few hundred metres short of the runway in Smolensk, killing all 96 people aboard. The plane was carrying the Polish president, Lech Kaczyński, his wife, the country’s central bank chief, several MPs and its most senior military figures.

The new investigation on the causes of the plane crash was launched after the Law and Justice party leaded by late presient's twon brother, Jarosław Kaczynski, won the election in 2015. The Polish government accuses Russia of blocking its attempts to carry out a full investigation, by failing to give it access to two air traffic controllers’ testimonies, and to hand over the black box flight recorders and wreckage.
