INTRA-SYRIAN NEGOTIATIONS
GENEVA, SWITZERLAND
23 FEBRUARY 2017

UN-sponsored peace talks between the Syrian government and opposition are to begin in Geneva for the first time in almost a year. The talks start on 23 February at the Palais des Nations.

Russia may ask world powers to pay billions of dollars for the reconstruction of Syria, according to reports. The revival of the Syria talks was decided by the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Syria, Staffan de Mistura last December in order to build on the momentum created by Security Council resolutions allowing for the deployment of neutral UN observers to oversee civilian evacuations from Aleppo after Syrian troops re-took the city. The renewed commitment to the fragile ceasefire by Russia, Iran and Turkey at recent talks in the Kazakh capital, Astana, are seen as potentially paving the way for further advances ahead of the U.N. Talks.

All media need to be accredited by the United Nations Office at Geneva.

EUROVISION Special Events offers the following facilities onsite:

• HD/SD Standup position for Live programme inserts
• HD/SD Playout
• Connectivity to the Eurovision Global Network
