Turkey and Russia have signed an agreement during the 23rd World Energy Congress, taking place in Istanbul, for the construction of a major undersea gas pipeline. The two Presidents have also vowed to seek common ground on the war in Syria, accelerating a normalisation in ties.

Erdogan said in a joint conference “Our relations will [improve] in many fields, be it in defence industry, political, economic, trade, tourism or culture. We will make up for lost time in the coming days.”

The World Energy Congress is continuing in Istanbul until October 13th.
