New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio says an explosion in the Chelsea neighborhood on Saturday night was "an intentional act."

Authorities say more than two dozen people were injured. An NYPD spokesman says the explosion happened at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday on West 23rd Street in the Chelsea section of Manhattan.

An explosion in a trash dumpster in the heart of New York on Saturday night left at least 29 people injured, one of them critically.

The mayor of New York described the explosion as "an intentional act", but said there was no evidence so far of terror links.

Earlier on Saturday, a pipe bomb detonated in a trash can in a town in New Jersey shortly before a charity race. The incidents come just days before world leaders gather in New York for the United Nations General Assembly.

Eurovision Americas will offer live stand-ups from the streets of New York on Sunday. Playouts will be available from the Eurovision New York bureau.
