INTERRELIGIOUS PEACE SUMMIT
ASSISI, ITALY
20 SEPTEMBER 2016

Pope Francis is attending the closing ceremony of the interreligious summit for peace, marking this Pontiff's third visit to the town of Italy's patron, Saint Francis of Assisi.

The event celebrates the 30th anniversary of the World Day of Prayer for Peace that St. John Paul II first convened in Assisi in 1986. Pope Francis will also be holding private meetings with religious leaders from around the world.

Titled “Thirst for Peace: Religions and Cultures in dialogue,” the World Day of Prayer for Peace organized by the Community of Sant'Egidio in collaboration with the Franciscan Order in Assisi runs from September 18th to September 20th. The Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople Bartholomew I, Anglican Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, and a high representative of Islamic Faith are expected to attend.
