03.08.2016Turkiye: Erdogan presses US to extradite Fetullah Gulen *** ARCHIVE

IHA News Agency

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan presses the United States to extradite Fetullah Gulen, saying that waiting to get the alleged coup plotter is intolerable.

Erdogan believes that Pennsylvania-based Gulen should be returned to Turkey without the documents required by US authorities, saying that “You have to be blind and deaf not to understand that he is behind all of this”, adding “If we request the extradition of a terrorist then you should fulfill that. If you start asking for documents and what not, then it’s a huge obstacle in our way of fighting terrorism.”

Turkish authorities have sent new documents to the American authorities for Gulen's extradition. However, Secretary of State John Kerry said on 18 July that Turkey must present "genuine evidence" and "not allegations" against the Muslim cleric for his extradition.
