Syria Government delegation joins peace talks in Geneva

A government delegation led by Syria's U.N. Ambassador Bashar Ja'afari, arrived in Geneva on Friday to join a new round of U.N mediated peace talks, underway since Wednesday, with an umbrella opposition group that seeks to find a resolution to Syria’s five year conflict. The Syrian government said it was delayed because of parliamentary elections that were held this week in government-controlled areas of Syria.

13-14 APRIL, 2016

The Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Syria, Mr. Staffan de Mistura, announced the resumption of the ‘Intra-Syrian Talks’ in Geneva on 13 April, 2016. These talks have re-convened, calling for a definitive direction of the political process leading to a real beginning of political transition.
The respective delegations will meet in Geneva with a United Nations mediator chairing the discussions.

The Syrian crisis, described as the worst humanitarian disaster of our time, has not only killed over 250,000 people since March 2011, and displaced an estimated 9 million in Syria and neighbouring countries.
