Bogota is a new desk, working under the coordination of Montevideo’s headquarters for AFP’s Latin America operation, with bureaus in over 20 countries.

Life in Bogotá can be pleasant despite chronic traffic problems. It has a rich cultural life and very good restaurants. The office is in one of the liveliest neighbourhoods, with shopping malls, restaurants and nightclubs in the immediate vicinity. The temperature is around 20°C all year round, and the climate is often cool because Bogotá sits at 2,600 metres above sea level on a plateau in the Andes Mountains. A three-hour drive takes you to areas with warm, tropical climates. Colombia is rich in culture and landscape and is home to 10% of the world's biodiversity.
Security is still a serious problem in some regions. Standard safety precautions are a necessity, including in the capital.
