Eurovision News Events

Bangui, CAR, 29-30 November 2015 Pope Francis will make his first trip to Africa at the end of November. He will visit Kenya, Uganda and the Central African Republic from November 25 to November 30. The Pope has made poverty and inequities of globalization major themes of his pontificate and is likely to address these topics during his African visit. The trip to Africa will be his 11th trip out of Rome since his election as Pope in March 2013. Bangui in the Central African Republic will be the last stop on Pope Francis’ African trip. The Papal visit to the country, often ranked as one of the 10th poorest nations on earth, takes place against a recent renewal of the communal and religious violence which has plagued the country since the July 2014 peace agreement between the Séléka and anti-balaka forces. The Pope recently made a strong appeal to the conflicting parties in CAR to put an end to the violence. Pope Francis’ schedule includes a meeting with the President, celebrating Holy Mass at the local Stadium and a highly anticipated meeting with Muslim community leaders in the central Mosque of Koudoukou. The launch of the Jubilee of Mercy will be brought forward by the Pope and celebrated by opening the holy doors of the Bangui Catholic Cathedral on November 29 rather than as previously scheduled in Rome on 8 December.
