Italy- Rome February 2015

A Roman judge set the date of February 12 to begin the murder trial of 21 members of military juntas and secret services who served in Bolivia, Chile, Peru and Uruguay during the 1970s and '80s. The defendants have been charged in the deaths of 23 citizens of Italian origin, victims allegedly among the 'desaparecidos' who 'disappeared' during the so-called dirty wars against leftist opponents to juntas. Multiple homicide and aggravated kidnapping remain on the Italian docket while the charge of massacre was dropped for procedural reasons.
