HAVANA, CUBA | 17 DECEMBER - ONWARDS

American officials say the U.S. and Cuba will start talks to normalize full diplomatic relations as part of the most significant shift in U.S. policy toward the communist island in decades.

Officials say the U.S. is also looking to open an embassy in Havana in the coming months. The moves are part of an agreement between the U.S. and Cuba that also includes the release of American Alan Gross and three Cubans jailed in Florida for spying.

The Associated Press is providing broadcast facilities from the Havana bureau; the stand-up positions overlook the harbor and old Havana. Additional facilities are available from Washington and the White House north lawn

Havana, Cuba, December 17, 2014

A major breakthrough in US-Cuban relations is anticipated after Cuba released the US citizen Alan Gross, and the United States released three prisoners accused of being Cuban spies.

Both countries’ Presidents are making statements on moves towards normalizing diplomatic relations and it’s thought possible that a US Embassy could be established in Havana in the coming months.

The US broke off diplomatic relations and imposed economic sanctions
against Cuba more than 50 years ago following the accession to power of Fidel
Castro.

Eurovision is offering live stand-ups and tape playouts from its bureau in Havana, with an excellent panoramic view over the historic Malecon and Havana bay.

Eurovision Special Events will offer the following facilities onsite:

Standup positions with background of Havana for live programme inserts
Playouts (multi-format)
