Vatican City - St Peters Square, Rome, Italy, 14-15 February 2015

Pope Francis will preside over a consistory for the creation of twenty new cardinals on February 14. The Pontiff announced the appointment of new cardinals from ‘’every continent’’, demonstrating “an indissoluble bond between the Church of Rome and Churches worldwide” .

On February 15 the Pope will hold Mass with the new cardinals. Pope Francis has continued the geographical shift in the College of Cardinals, gradually widening the representation of poorer countries. Only one of the new cardinals is from the Roman Curia.

The Pope’s nine-member Council of Cardinals is currently working on a major reform of the Vatican bureaucracy, including a new apostolic constitution for the curia.
