The Berlin-Kreuzberg street festival on Labour Day has become an institution since its start in 2003. On 1 May of each year, local residents hold a colourful spring festival around the Kottbusser Tor, Heinrichplatz and Oranienstraße with a diverse programme of music and stage performances as well as all sorts of culinary delights.
Since 1987, `Autonome´ and Anti-Fascist groups are organizing a so-called "Revolutionary 1st of May Demonstrations" every year. Thousends of policemen are on duty.
