Turkey’s first face transplant patient has managed to drink soup and tea a mere five days after his operation. Nineteen-year-old Uğur Acar is now half way through the critical 10-day risk period after his transplant, and according to doctors he is progressing well. The 10-day period following a transplant is crucial as to whether or not the patient’s body will accept the organs or tissue that has been transplanted. Acar suffered serious burns to his face during a house fire that occurred when he was just 40 days old.
