In this role you will work as directed by the Executive Producer of Digital to fulfil the editorial mission of the digital team and its work with the overall operation of CGTN.

Your duties may vary according to shift patterns and news demands and as workflow and demands on the entire team become clearer as we move from a start-up operation to a more mature and fully integrated newsroom. Flexibility is essential.

As a senior member of the team you will be expected to mentor and develop others and to bring the full extent of your experience and knowledge to bear on the role to the benefit of the entire team. Your expertise in specific areas – such as copy editing, video, reporting or news planning -- may mean you lead teams and training in specialist areas.

Duties can be expected to include:
  • Improve copy and content and be part of strict approvals process from content creation to copy editing and final approval before publishing.
  • Adhere to CGTN editorial policies, while producing content that is creative and engaging for a global audience.
  • Lead and direct editors, writers and video specialists to produce daily multimedia content for and CGTN Europe and various social media platforms, working to the Executive Producer Digital Media CGTN Europe.
  • Represent digital news at the daily and weekly CGTN Europe editorial meetings.
  • Plan and executive special digital coverage on a given topic or event.
  • Work with television producers, reporters and correspondents to make the most of television assets and skills across all digital assets.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge and proficiency in the latest digital technology and systems across websites and social media platforms.
  • Know how to leverage social media to attract new audiences using the unique story-telling tools of specific sites.
  • Thrive under pressure, especially in a “start-up” broadcast centre environment.
  • Be able to work irregular hours and an extended schedule as the news cycle demands.
  • Excel at work within a culturally and ethnically diverse staff.

Required Experience
  • Degree in Journalism, Communications or related field
  • Extensive knowledge of current events, geopolitics and international relations, especially Europe & Asia.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced and demanding 24-hour news environment.
  • Proficiency with desk-top editing software a plus
