Washington DC, USA: Journalism Trainer - Internews

Job Vacancy:
Journalism Trainer - Internews

Washington DC, USA

Internews Network is an international media development organization whose mission is to empower local media worldwide to give people the news and information they need, the ability to connect, and the means to make their voices heard. This consultancy comes within a U.S. State Department- funded short-term training and exchange program for female journalists from South Asia. The program aims to increase the opportunities for women journalists to assume senior management roles in the news media sector through improved professional skills and strengthened networks.

The Consultant will develop a training curriculum and deliver a two-day journalism training workshop, likely in late October or early November 2019, in Washington, DC for 10 mid-level South Asian women journalists, from TV, radio, print and online media. Internews will work with the Consultant to conduct a training needs assessment among the selected participants, to ensure a tailored training curriculum. The curriculum may include specific modules that address reporting skills relevant to female journalists in South Asia (i.e. creating compelling multi-media stories, using data effectively, digital and physical security), online verification skills to combat misinformation, and practical newsroom management skills and techniques. The Consultant will also provide remote mentoring support to participants to develop follow-on activities such as training and women’s networks. After the training, participants will be placed in newsrooms in the U.S. for a short exchange.
