The Associated Press seeks a Broadcast Engineer to provide technical planning and operational support during the U.S. 2020 General Election year and other special events as required in Washington, DC.

Responsibilities:
  • Work with the Manager of Broadcast Operations and the Head of Special Events to ensure that GMS maximises its use of technical resources within the confines of agreed budgets.
  • Liaise with vendors to maximise quality and minimise cost for GMS during coverage of special events.
  • To be fully aware of the need to fulfill client requests for service during special events.
  • Work closely with field coordinators during coverage of special events.
  • Liaise with the other GMS staff in establishing effective allocation of equipment to major news coverage.
  • To facilitate all technical aspects of the GMS Liveshot.
  • Ability to operate LiveU
  • Install, test, document and support specialized systems for video production, audio production, live broadcast and interactive media
  • Provide support for convergent broadcast & IT technologies
  • Provide a detailed report after an event which will help maintain a database of all key vendors, contact names and GMS key relationships with clients as well as ensuring best practice for future deployments. To assist in the management of the allocation of resources for coverage of special events.
  • Assist in the planning of the logistics needed for mounting large-scale news operations for the US Election year.
  • To work with other broadcast engineers in the routine maintenance and installations of broadcast equipment.
  • To be prepared to travel, sometimes at short notice to act in any suitable technical role as require. Be on call via a company cell phone.
  • Work on holidays and special events when required.
  • To undertake any other duties and projects as assigned by your line manager.
