The Communications Department is responsible for developing a coherent voice and delivering clear public messages to inform both US and international audiences of MSF, its field activities and the humanitarian principles that underpin them; to raise awareness about the plight of the populations we serve; to promote public communication aimed at exposing and describing the field reality, including dilemmas and challenges; and to garner public understanding for our advocacy messages related to field operational concerns and the Access Campaign, via the media, print and digital channels , public awareness and advocacy campaigns, conferences, etc.


The Video and Multimedia Associate works within the communications department as a member of the editorial team and key collaborator with the events team. The associate, reporting to the video and multimedia producer, will support the creation and dissemination of video and multimedia content online and for live events and exhibits.


Job Functions and Responsibilities

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Support Creation of Video and Multimedia Content (100%)

Regularly reviews and edits short form videos for social media, the MSF-USA website, Field HR recruitment, and content intended for MSF audiences. Adapts multimedia content received from the movement as needed for publication in the US.

Assists with research, logistics, production, and editing, for large-scale video and multimedia projects, such as documentaries, video series, and photography exhibitions.

Works with supervisor to execute pre-interview preparations, interview shoots, and scripting for recruitment-focused videos and special projects.

Curates photo, video, and graphic content for live webcasts, including editing or creating supplementary video content.

Trains with supervisor on production of live webcasted events, with the goal of managing production independently.

Regularly contributes to video content and production planning.

Tracks and reports on video and multimedia project budgets, regularly updating supervisor to inform mid-year budget revisions and annual budget planning.

Supports relationships with select vendors, such as translators, app developers, production, and post-production collaborators, web streaming vendors, developers, designers, and equipment suppliers. Researches and recommends vendors as needed.

Supports video storytelling trainings for staff, association members, and board members.

Collaborates with video and multimedia colleagues to ensure consistent back-up and organization of all multimedia project materials. Manages uploading, organizing, and tagging multimedia packages on MSF shared databases and other platforms.

Manages submission of films and series to festivals both domestically and abroad.

Researches MSF field activities and synthesizes external reports to inform editorial content and provide background for vendors and production crews.

Contributes to regular responsibilities of Communications staff, such as doing de/briefings with international staff, supporting the annual General Assembly, contributing to annual planning, and supporting other departmental initiatives.

Maintains an orderly and functional audio-visual studio, including an up-to-date inventory of MSF-USA’s audio-visual equipment. Ensures that all equipment and software, including VR gear, remains in good working order, carrying out troubleshooting, updates, and maintenance as needed. Manages MSF-USA’s VR equipment, including dispatching kits for events and training or advising staff as needed.
