The Associated Press seeks a talented and experienced journalist to oversee coverage of the White House, Congress and politics, including the 2020 presidential election, as Deputy Bureau Chief for Newsgathering in Washington. Reporting to the Washington Chief of Bureau, this journalist will lead a team of news editors and reporters, drive competitive, ambitious and innovative journalism, and set coverage priorities that seek to consistently break news and produce distinct, richly reported enterprise. The deputy bureau chief will work closely with colleagues in Washington who run coverage of national security and federal agencies, as well as journalists across AP, to produce work that explains the inner workings of Washington and the capital’s impact on the country and the world. The deputy will also closely collaborate with photo and video colleagues who lead visually-focused coverage of the White House, Congress and politics. The successful candidate must have the ability and willingness to work at night and on weekends, or as coverage demands, as AP is a 24/7 operation.
