ENEX, the cooperative news provider, is looking for a dynamic and flexible individual to join the team as “Freelance Technical Coordinator”.

ENEX is a quickly expanding network of some of the biggest and most prestigious commercial broadcasters in the world, spanning across the globe. Our Coordination Centre, based in Luxembourg, is staffed by a vibrant, multinational editorial and technical team. Our news desk coordinates the sharing of more than 100 news stories every day between our over 55 members.

As “Freelance Technical Coordinator” your main responsibility will be to facilitate the newsgathering needs of the ENEX Coordination Centre and ENEX partners around the world. You will manage the efficient and accurate booking and use of the ENEX shared satellite space, receiving booking requests from ENEX members and/or third parties and ensuring a technically successful end-to-end transmission, troubleshooting failed transmissions. At the same time you will research and utilize alternative routes through 3rd party satellites, fibre lines or other networks.

You will also be responsible for the technical aspect of ENEX news operation, managing our technical resources and workflows for sourcing, video preparation and delivery. You will ensure that items arrive on time from various sources (satellite, web, fibre, IP, FTP, etc.), videos are quality checked and transcoded, are edited according to ENEX standards and delivered quickly via the right platforms (satellite, IP, streaming, FTP, etc.).

To succeed in such an environment you will need to combine a passion for news operations with an enthusiasm for newsrooms’ and transmissions’ technology. You will need to be a good communicator and a problem solver, as your day to day tasks will require you to support both the ENEX team and the wide network of partners. In addition, you will need to be self-motivated and able to work autonomously. You will enjoy a challenging, fastpaced working environment and a flat organizational structure.

In order to qualify for the position you need to have the following attributes:

  • You are studying or have studied media informatics, engineering or IT with a focus on broadcast and TV and/or you have some experience in TV operations as a satellite/transmissions coordinator, technical engineer or systems operator.
  • You have a good understanding of satellite & fibre optic networks and transmissions
  • You have a good understanding of some of the following areas: broadcast systems, video formats, media asset management, video servers, video standards and transcoding – and are willing to expand your knowledge of the rest
  • Video editing skills or satellite booking systems knowledge are an advantage
  • Prior experience with newsroom environments is also an advantage
  • Availability on short notice (2 hours if needed) to our office at Luxembourg- Kircherg
  • You speak English confidently and fluently while German or French will be appreciated.
