Job Description

Reuters Video News is looking for a talented and versatile Visuals Journalist to join the Asia Video team in Singapore.

It's a role that combines field work and desk work. You will travel on assignment - often at short notice - to major stories across the region, where you will shoot, deliver live coverage, edit, report and produce.

When not on assignment, you will be part of the production team in Singapore, scripting and editing stories.

The successful candidate must be competent in the full range of multimedia skills – filming, editing, scripting and taking photographs. A passion for visual storytelling is a must.

You must be able to work calmly under pressure and against tight deadlines to produce a top-notch file for our clients. Strong news judgment and the ability to help dig out a story when there appears to be none are essential. You must be a team player with excellent communication skills, an unflappable temperament and a demonstrable passion for news gathering and visual storytelling.

You will be a proven self-starter with the ability to build a strong rapport with colleagues in the bureaux and in different departments across editorial and sales.

You must have a global perspective to go with your intimate knowledge of the stories in the Asia region. You need to be flexible enough to deal with a fast-moving business which can involve long working hours and the need to travel at short notice.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • React quickly to breaking news, willingness to travel on assignments, sometimes at short notice to set up live coverage and file edits.
  • Coordinating news coverage and delivery as part of a multi-media team on a daily basis from the field or the regional hub.
  • Quickly and efficiently process stories that come to the desk, upholding Reuters Trust Principles of independence, integrity and freedom from bias.
  • Keeping abreast of an often volatile and always fast-moving news file in the region.
  • Establishing a rapport with colleagues in the bureaux across all media.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIRED SKILLS
  • Strong camera skills using broadcast-quality video camera or DSLR, combined with the ability to pull a story together.
  • Ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines, many times unsupervised.
  • Strong planning and prioritization skills.
  • Willingness to travel to breaking news stories, often at short notice.
  • Strong and clear communication skills, both with colleagues and clients.
  • Ability to work well and learn within a team.
  • Strong visual skills and English story writing skills.
  • Understanding needs of video and photo clients, regionally and internationally
