Belgrade, Serbia
20 May 2012
The rivals for Serbia's presidency, liberal incumbent Boris Tadic and ex-nationalist Tomislav Nikolic, will face each other in a run-off on 20 May.
The nationalist Serbian Progressive Party has accused authorities of forging 500,000 ballots during the May 6 presidential, parliamentary, and municipal polls.
The Progressives won the largest number of parliament seats in the poll but have been shut out of a coalition deal and say they been deprived of a wider margin of victory because of fraud.
Tadic led Nikolic by half a percentage point in the first round, and is considered a favorite in the runoff.
The result of the runoff could affect Serbia's bid to join the EU, a bid led by Tadic. Serbia formally became a candidate for entry in March.
Eurovision Special Events will offer production and transmission facilities in front of the Serbian Parliament in Belgrade, including:
- Standup positions with a backdrop of the Parliament building
- Playout (multi-format)
- Connectivity to the Eurovision Global Network

Second round of presidential election takes place in Serbia
The second round of the presidential election is scheduled to take place in Serbia. It will be a run-off between the pro-European Boris Tadic and the conservative Tomislav Nikolic. Both the electoral commission (RIK) and the election monitoring centre (CeSID) give outgoing president Tadic a small advantage in the presidential vote on his main rival Nikolic. CeSID had the candidates respectively 26.8 per cent and 25.6 per cent and RIK predicted 24.81 per cent for Tadic and 24.71 per cent for Nikolic. The second round on 20 May will be the third challenge for Tadic and Nikolic. Nikolic has been beaten twice before by Tadic in presidential elections held in 2004 and 2008.
