Brussels, Belgium, 23-May-2012

European Heads of State or Government summit will be held on 23 May, 2012 at the invitation of the President of the European Council, Herman Van Rompuy.

This will be the first summit in Brussels for newly elected French President François Hollande, the Socialist who defeated conservative Nicolas Sarkozy in French elections Sunday May 6.

During his victory speech, Hollande declared that France would end the inevitability of austerity, a direct challenge to Germany's desire to bring budgetary and debt retraints in EU treaties under control.

The Summit will take place at the European Council's Justus Lipsius building, 175 rue de la loi, Brussels, Belgium.

Eurovision Special Events is establishing production and transmission facilities in Brussels, including:

The European Union president called an extraordinary meeting on May 23 of EU leaders who are expected to debate ways to generate growth amid rising opposition to austerity measures. EU president Herman Van Rompuy announced the date for an "informal dinner of heads of state or government" to precede a decisive summit already scheduled for June 28-29.
