Berlin, Germany - May 15, 2012

François Hollande will travel to Berlin to meet with German Chancellor Angela Merkel on 15 May, soon after being sworn in as president of France.

In her message congratulating Hollande for his victory, Merkel said “it is us who have to take the necessary decisions for the EU and the Eurozone in order to prepare our societies for the future and guarantee their well-being”.

Hollande has been asking for deep changes providing for growth enhancing policies to be inserted in the austerity minded Fiscal Pact signed by the 25 EU leaders a month ago, a joint effort directed by Sarkozy and Merkel. Hollande, however, has made the notion of growth as the main issue in his electoral campaign that won him the French presidency on Sunday 06 May.

Merkel and Hollande are sheduled to meet during the afternoon of 15 May and have a working dinner together in the evening.
