The incumbent, Conservative Boris Johnson, and main rival, Labour's Ken Livingston, lead a field of candidates with latest polls predicting a tight result.

Cult of personality has driven the campaign with Johnson and Livingston trading personal attacks, ensuring a lively end to what has been a bitter race for London's top job.

Whoever wins the ballot will preside over the London 2012 Games as Mayor of the Olympic city.
