Marine Le Pen and Nicolas Sarkozy gather supporters in Paris

The French President Nicolas Sarkozy has called for a big counter-march to the traditional trade union demonstrations on 1st of May. Tens of thousands of supporters are expected at the Eiffel Tower to a "real celebration of work". French unions consider the anti-demonstration as a provocation.

At the same time the supporters of the far-right National Front gather at the Place de l'Opera. Party leader Marine Le Pen will announce, if she recommends her supporters to vote for Nicolas Sarkozy or François Hollande at the runoff election on Sunday.
