Reykyavik, Iceland, 23 April 2012

The verdict in the case against Iceland's former Prime Minister is expected on Monday (23 April 2012). If convicted, Geir Haarde could face a 2 year jail term for negligence and mis-management over the handling of the 2008 financial crisis.

Geir Haarde was ousted from office after the failure of the country's 3 biggest banks. Glitnir, Kaupthing and Landsbanki all went bust within weeks in the immediate aftermath of the collapse of Lehman Brothers in 2008.

Mr. Haarde is the first world leader to face criminal charges over the 2008 global financial meltdown.
