Saint Mark’s Cathedral in Abbasseya, Cairo, Egypt, 20 March 2012

Egypt’s Coptic Orthodox church began preparations on Sunday for the funeral of Pope Shenouda III, who died on Saturday aged 88 after a long battle with illness.

The Holy Synod of the Coptic Church announced that the funeral prayer for Pope Shenouda III will take place on Tuesday at 11:00 am at Saint Mark’s Cathedral in Abbasseya, Cairo.

A large number of political figures from Egypt and abroad are expected to attend the prayer.

Coptic Christians make up 10% of Egypt's population of 80 million. Pope Shenouda led the church, one of the oldest Christian communities in the world, for four decades.

He leaves behind a nervous community, a target of frequent sectarian attacks in recent years, who complain of routine harassment and systematic discrimination.

Eurovision Special Events will establish onsite production and transmission facilities.

The feedpoint will be setup on a small building across the street from the Cathedral's VIP entrance at 473 Ramses Street, Abbasya, Cairo. The live shot backdrop will be the VIP entrance as well as the outside of the cathedral.

Eurovision Special Events will offer the following facilities on site:

Playouts
Stand-up positions for program inserts
Connectivity to the Eurovision global network
