The 72nd anniversary of the outbreak of World War 2 will be commemorated at the Westerplatte peninsula in Gdansk. A Polish Military Transit Depot, located at Westerplatte from 1926 to 1939, was the object of an unexpected attack by the German battleship "Schleswig-Holstein" on the 1st of September 1939. The clash between Polish and German forces became the 1st battle of WW2. The commemoration is to start at 04:25 local time with a historical reconstruction and will be attended by the highest Polish authorities.
