Eurovision News Events

Zarzis, Tunisia, 22 August, 2011 onwards

Libyan rebels seized control of most of Tripoli Sunday and met little resistance as Gaddafi's defenders melted away and his 42-year rule rapidly crumbled. The euphoric fighters celebrated with residents of the capital in Green Square, the symbolic heart of the regime.

A rebel spokesman said on Monday morning that Gaddafi loyalists only controlled 20 percent of the city. There are reports of heavy clashes around Muammar Gaddafi's compound in the capital.

Eurovision Special Events will offer the following facilities in Zarzis (80kms away from the Libyan border):

* Stand-up positions for program inserts
* Tape playout from correspondents' player or own camera
* Connectivity to the Eurovision Global Network

We should be operational today, Monday August 22nd, for the evening bulletins.

Please note that the Police in Ras-Ajdir did not allow us to operate from this town at the Tunisian-Libyan border, this is the reason why we are establishing the feedpoint in Zarzis.
