Madrid, Spain - Nov. 19-21, 2011

Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero has called general elections for November 20, 2011, four months earlier than originally planned.

The opposition conservative party led by Mariano Rajoy is seeking to maintain a large lead, while Zapatero's successor as Socialist Party candidate, Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba, is hoping to galvanize disillusioned voters.

The economy has dominated Spanish politics since the country went into recession in 2008, forcing the government to implement deep austerity measures to tackle a high deficit and Europe's highest unemployment rate at over 20 percent.

Eurovision Special Events is planning to establish production and transmission facilities in several locations in Madrid.

Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero has called for elections, four months in advance before the scheduled date due to the economic crisis affecting Spain.

Socialist Party leader leaves his place as party leader Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba at very committed to reaching the polls. The main points of his electoral program are to help small and medium enterprises to help create jobs.

The opposition led by Mariano Rajoy, comes as a clear favorite to date, with a manifesto based on employment and economic recovery through various economic policies of austerity. Coming to power, small and medium enterprises, homosexuals and marginalized sectors of society will be the big losers in Spanish society.
