Eurovision is operational in Dadaab, Kenya - From July 27, 2011 The United Nations has declared famine in 2 regions of Somalia, both regions are affected by the worst drought in the region for 50 years. The world body has called for urgent international action to help those affected. At least 10 million people in the horn of Africa are estimated to be affected by the current drought. Aid agencies are recording approximately three thousand daily arrivals at the Dadaab refugee camp in Kenya. Many are severely mal-nourished young children often walking for up to 20 days to reach assistance. UN Secretary General - Ban Ki-Moon has urged world leaders to respond urgently to the crisis and warns the situation will spread to the rest of Somalia within 2 months unless international assistance reaches the region. At a UN food agency crisis meeting, the World Bank pledged 500-million dollars assistance. Eurovision Special Events has established production and transmission facilities inside the UN coumpound in Dadaab, next to the guest house where journalists are staying..
