The European Banking Authority (EBA) has announced the publication date for the EU wide stress test, which will take place on Friday 15th July 2011.

The test is being carried out on 91 banks to assess the resilience of European banks to a hypothetical adverse scenario on a static balance sheet (as of December 2010), over a two-year time horizon.

Key features of the 2011 test include a new consistent capital benchmark of 5% core tier 1.

Of the 91 tested in 2010, five in Spain, one in Germany and one in Greece failed to pass but those cleared included Irish banks, AIB and Bank of Ireland, which subsequently needed billions more in bail-out funds.
