A new round of direct Israel-Lebanon talks is scheduled for this Tuesday and Wednesday in Washington, shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday that Israel and Hezbollah had agreed to dial back fighting.
Lebanese negotiators hope to widen the scope of areas that will not be attacked in the country as they seek a complete ceasefire. Hezbollah has rejected direct talks, counting on pressure from Iran, which has demanded an end to the war in Lebanon in its talks with the U.S.
The talks that began in April in Washington were the first in more than three decades between the countries, which have no formal diplomatic relations.
