BRICS Summit
Rio De Janeiro, Brazil | July 6-7, 2025

Brazil will host the BRICS summit in Rio de Janeiro on 6-7 July.

Created in 2009, BRICS originally brought together Brazil, China, Russia, and India. South Africa joined two years later. A recent expansion meant Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, Indonesia, and Iran also became permanent members.

Last month the group's foreign ministers already held talks aimed at creating a united front to oppose US President Donald Trump's aggressive trade policies. Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov were among the top diplomats signing on to a statement that criticized a “resurgence of trade protectionism”.
