Pope Benedict dies

Eurovision News Events is providing live positions on an elevated platform with a view of St Peter's Square, and the pilgrims lining up to enter the Basilica, for the duration of the funeral. We also offer a limited number of bookable workspaces nearby.

FUNERAL COVERAGE -- 5th January

On 5 January, Pope Francis will become the first pope in modern history to preside as Pope at the funeral of his predecessor. The Requiem Mass is set to take place on Thursday morning in St Peter’s Square, from 9:30 am local time.
Benedict XVI will be laid to rest, as he requested, in the Grottoes beneath the Basilica, in the tomb where St John Paul II was buried before his beatification.
The funeral and accompanying rites will be noticeable by their simplicity following the wishes of the late Pope Emeritus.

Coverage schedule:
NB: Eurovision countdown just before the start of the ceremony at 07.40GMT
Expected to show:
1. Arrival at the churchyard of the coffin
2. Rosary
3. Funeral ceremony 08.30 GMT/03:30 EST
4. Ultima Commendatio and Valedictio
5. The coffin returns to the Basilica
