Electricity cuts anger citizens in Sudan
The Sudanese Electricity Distribution Company has implemented programmed cuts that last from four to seven hours during one day in the capital, Khartoum, and some states. Citizens complained of frequent power cuts during the days of the blessed month, which in some areas reach more than ten hours.
This comes at a time when press reports revealed that the Turkish barge in Port Sudan had stopped extending the electricity supply for not receiving its financial dues from the government.Which observers warned of and expected that the same scenario would be repeated last year, and the city would suffer for days if the Ministry of Finance did not move and pay the debt of the barge.
The actual need of Sudan is about 3200 megawatts, while it is expected that electricity production in Sudan will decline to about 1820 megawatts, as happened last year, which prompted the government to implement the programming of the cuts.
The electricity cuts coincide with the fasting of the majority of the Sudanese people for the holy month of Ramadan, in addition to the high temperature, which reached (46) degrees Celsius today, Monday.
